It is the end of a long day and there are tears. My cover star is crying. While this would normally send me into an intense panic that my photo shoot has been an epic fail—this is the sort of cathartic cry for which Taryn Toomey is celebrated. Toomey believes in feeling all of the feelings. This summer her base-bumping, crystal-charged, primal-screaming workout is taking the East End by storm—taking Hamptonites on a journey of both physical and emotional transformation.
The Class by Taryn Toomey’s Bridgehampton location at The Barn is a carefully curated space with a streamlined design designed to soothe the senses from the start. Toomey’s signature palo santo scent wafts through the air while bronze and crystal light fixtures by Kelly Wearstler and Christopher Boots illuminate the luxurious space. “Every art piece, every light fixture, our symbolic logo, Aurora Spirits feather, our exclusive retail partners—all have intention and meaning behind them,” says Toomey. “We want to give our guests a holistic mind-body experience.” With the addition of the Hamptons studio, The Class counts locations in New York, Los Angeles and Vancouver, as well as ancillary programs such as seasonal cleanses called The Layer, The Retreatment international wellness retreats, and fashion and beauty collaborations. “We are constantly working on new brand collaborations that are in line with our mission,” says Toomey. “At every turn, we make sure that the student comes first. It is for them that we do this work that is so much more than just physical movement. It is healing. It is transformative. It is in service.” Blending the mind-clearing benefits of yoga with the high intensity of a boot camp, the true secret sauce of The Class lies not so much in the workout designed to sculpt the long and lean silhouette Toomey and her instructors flaunt and her followers crave—but in the release.
